LAS CRUCES, N.M. – NM State locked up its third straight win and clinched the weekend series on Saturday night at Presley Askew Field at Johnson Stadium. The Aggies capitalized on mistakes late in the game and received dominant bullpen work to topple the Panthers 7-2. The Aggies broke open a tight 2-2 game with a five‑run seventh inning and held the Panthers scoreless over the final four frames to secure the series victory.
Prairie View A&M struck first in the second, but
Chris Daniels quickly answered with a solo homer to left‑center to tie the game 1-1. After the Panthers inched ahead in the fifth, NM State punched back in the sixth when
Steve Solorzano scored on a single from
Bryce Campbell to even things at 2-2.
The breakthrough came in the seventh as the Aggies loaded the bases and capitalized on free passes and defensive miscues.
Cole Rogers walked and stole second,
Dane Woodcook added a walk of his own, and after a fielder's choice,
Tommy Meluskey was intentionally walked to load the bases.
Boston Vest drew a bases‑loaded walk to put NM State in front before
Aidan Taclas was hit by a pitch to bring home another run. Two Prairie View A&M throwing errors on the next play brought in two more Aggie runs, and Solorzano later scored on a wild pitch to cap off the five‑run inning.
From there, the NM State bullpen slammed the door.
Dylan Weekly delivered four shutout innings, giving up just three hits and striking out four to earn the win. The Aggies allowed just two hits across the final two innings to finish off the 7-2 victory. The win secured the first series win for NM State during the 2026 campaign.
