SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS
Seattle U enters the semifinal contest as a No. 4 seed in the WAC Tournament. The Redhawks finished the regular season at 15-14 overall with a 9-5 mark in conference play. Seattle advanced to the semis after taking down No. 5 UMKC 75-64.

The Redhawks are led in scoring by Alexis Montogomery who has averaged 19.1 points and had a team-high 10.1 rebounds while starting in all 30 games. Jacinta Beckley also adds 12.9 points per game and Kamira Sanders contributes 11.3.

Play for SU has produced the best in the fourth quarter outscoring opponents 620-537 on the season. The Redhawks lead the WAC in scoring offense with 68.8 points per game and also lead the conference in rebounding offense with 40.5 per game and assists at an average of 14.1.

LAST TIME OUT
The top-seeded New Mexico State women's basketball team opened the Western Athletic Conference with quarterfinal play against No. 8 Chicago State at the Orleans Arena on March 7. A high-scoring night from Gia Pack and Brooke Salas led the Aggies to a dominant 84-60 victory over the Cougars.

NM State truly seemed to be chomping at the bit to open tournament play as the team came out flying in the first quarter. A 6-0 run forced CSU to call a timeout just 2:13 in. The stoppage only slowed NM State down momentarily as the following the timeout the Aggies continued their run which built to 17-0.

This large lead carried throughout the game and despite Chicago State knocking down the first basket of the fourth quarter to pull within 11 points, that would be the closest NM State would allow the score to be. Pack and Salas combined for the next 15 Aggie points and the team led 76-57. NM State proceeded to close out the quarterfinal matchup on a 10-3 run for an 84-60 victory.

Scoring for the Aggies was led by Pack with 29 points, followed closely behind by Salas who added 27 and a team-high seven rebounds. A lack of turnovers proved pivotal for NM State as the team committed just seven, the lowest total this season.

AGGIES RUN AWAY WITH HONORS
The Western Athletic Conference announced the All-WAC honors on March 5. Head coach Brooke Atkinson and the Aggies earned six individual accolades, including Atkinson for WAC Coach of the Year and Brooke Salas was named Player of the Year.

Coach Atkinson's first year at the helm saw her lead NM state to a 17-11 overall record and 11-3 mark in conference play. A win in the season finale earned the Aggies their fourth straight WAC Regular Season Championship, a conference record.

Behind Atkinson the Aggies led the WAC in field goal percentage (.422) and blocked shots (125). The team also led its competitors in free throw percentage (.761) and three-point field goal percentage defense (.290) during conference action.

Salas earned recognition as WAC Player of the Year and was also named to the All-WAC First-Team and Defensive Team. Salas was the leading scorer in conference play as the Aggies won their fourth consecutive WAC title. In addition to her WAC-best 18.4 points per game, the guard also led the league in steals during WAC play, averaging 2.6 per game.

The Placentia, Calif. native was also fourth in the conference in rebounding at 8.4 per game and her .865 free throw percentage was one of the top marks in the WAC. Salas shot .436 from three-point range, which was second in the league and her 1.7 blocks per game rank third.

Gia Pack joined Salas on the All-WAC First-Team after a phenomenal sophomore campaign. The guard averaged 15.5 points per game and led the Aggies with 8.5 rebounds in conference play. Pack started in all 14 WAC games for NM State and finished second in the conference in defensive rebounds (87).

Junior transfer Monique Mills was named to the WAC All-Newcomer Team following a standout season off the bench. With 14 appearances in conference action the Salt Lake City, Utah native averaged 6.8 points and 3.1 rebounds.

UP NEXT
If the Aggies are able to take down the Redhawks then the NM State squad advances to its fourth-straight WAC Championship game. This would pit the Aggies against the winner of the CSU Bakersfield versus Grand Canyon matchup at 3:00 p.m. MT on March 9 at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.
