@NMStateWBB Readies for Final Regular Season Road Games

NM State women’s basketball travel to Chicago State on Feb. 22 and UMKC on Feb. 24 for the final two road games of the regular season.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State women's basketball team hits the road for a two-game road series for the final time in February. First, the Aggies take on Chicago State on Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. MT at the Jones Convocation Center. Two days later, NM State battles the Roos of UMKC at the Swinney Recreation Center with tip-off scheduled for noon.

SCOUTING THE COUGARS
Chicago State stands at 1-25 on the year with a 1-10 record in WAC play. The Cougars have lost their last two, but recently snapped a 59-game losing streak taking down Utah Valley in Orem, Utah, 84-74.
 
Play for CSU is led by Tyeshia Bowers who has started in 25 of the team's 26 games and leads the team with 12.2 points per contest. Phylicia Johnson also averages double-digit points at 11.5 while playing a team-high 35.6 minutes per game.
 
Ines Mata Boix leads the team on the glass reeling in 8.1 rebounds per game and also has a team-high 46 blocks and 41 steals.
 
LOOKING AT THE ROOS
UMKC currently stands at 9-17 overall with a 5-6 mark in conference action. The Roos just snapped a three-game losing streak after they took down Chicago State, 106-47, at home.
 
Three Kansas City players average double-digit figures in scoring this season. That is led by Aries Washington with 16.6 points per game, followed by Kristen Moore at 13.7 and Samantha Waldron with 12.2. Moore also leads the team with 6.2 rebounds per game.
 
The Roos currently lead the WAC in scoring offense in their 11 conference games with 66.7 points. UMKC also leads in rebounding defense allowing opponents to reel in just 32.5 rebounds per contest.  
 
MAKE ROOM IN THE TROPHY CASE
New Mexico State guard Gia Pack earned her second WAC Player of the Week honor on Feb. 19 after posting a pair of double-doubles in the Aggies wins last week.
 
In the first game Pack scored 18 points and added a team-leading 11 rebounds for a 59-51 victory over Utah Valley at the Pan Am. The guard also dished out three assists and had two steals.
 
The tilt against Seattle U on Feb. 18 featured the guard leading the team in points with 21 and rebounds with 11. At week's end the Phoenix, Ariz. native had gone 11-11 from the free throw line.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The New Mexico State women's basketball team played host to Western Athletic Conference foe Utah Valley on Thursday, Feb. 15, at the Pan American Center. An early run in the third quarter, followed by stout defense to close out the game led the Aggies to a 59-51 victory over the Wolverines.
 
At game's end, Salas led the Aggies in scoring with 25 points followed by Pack with 18 points and a team-high 11 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season.
 
Then the team welcomed Seattle University to the Pan Am on Feb. 18 after dropping an early season contest up in Seattle, Wash. For the second straight game Gia Pack recorded a double-double and the Aggies used an early third quarter run to build a lead that could not be overcome as they took down the Redhawks 64-53.
 
Pack led the way with 21 points and 11 rebounds, followed by Salas with 18 points and Cooper added 10. Despite being outrebounded 48-41, the Aggies still produced in the paint outscoring the Redhawks 32-20. NM State also forced 20 turnovers and scored 18 points off those opportunities.
 
UP NEXT
Following the contests against Chicago State and UMKC, New Mexico State heads back to the Pan American Center for its final home game of the season. The Aggies host the Vaqueros of UT Rio Grande Valley for Senior Night on March 3 with tip-off slated for 2 p.m. MT.
