Aggies Begin Three-Game Home Stand on Thursday

NM State comes back to the Pan Am to face off against CSU Bakersfield on Thursday at 7 p.m. MT

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State women's basketball team (16-6, 8-0) looks to ride the momentum of their nine-game win streak into their game against Western Athletic Conference opponent, CSU Bakersfield (10-11, 5-2).
 
On Thursday, Feb. 9, at 7:00 p.m. MT, the Aggies take on the Roadrunners at the Pan American Center.

GAMEDAY PROMOTIONS
Thursday night's contest will feature the Las Cruces High School Dance Team. The squad will be honored and put on a performance at halftime for all fans in attendance. A 1,000 point ball will also be presented to NM State guard Moriah Mack for accomplishing the feat against Utah Valley on Jan. 28.
 
KEEPING UP WITH THE ROADRUNNERS
CSU Bakersfield enters the Pan Am with a record of 10-11, including a 5-2 mark in WAC play. The Roadrunners are currently on a four-game win streak as their most recent loss came against the Aggies, 64-55.
 
Bakersfield's scoring is led by Erika Williams (11.9 PPG) and Aja Williams (11.2 PPG). Erika Williams also leads the Roadrunners with 55 assists and 28 steals over 21 games. On the glass, the opponent relies on Jazmyne Bartee (5.9 RPG) and Brittany Sims (5.7 RPG).
 
As a team, CSU Bakersfield puts up 64.6 points per game, while allowing 62.8. The Roadrunners have been outrebounded on average, 37.9-35.8 which could help an Aggies team that have a +2.7 rebounding margin over all of their opponents.
 
One advantage the opposition has over the Aggies is at the line as Bakersfield leads the WAC in free throw percentage at .727, followed by NM State at .713.
 
The Roadrunners also play their strongest minutes in the beginning and final 10 minutes of the game. Their team had only been able to outscore opponents in the first (353-331) and fourth quarters (376-350) so far this year.
 
After toppling the Roadrunners, 64-55, on Jan. 14 at the Icardo Center in Bakersfield, Calif., NM State now holds a 5-3 series lead over the opponent, including wins in the last three.
 
AGGIES ON THE POWERPLAY
The Aggies enter the game against a short-handed CSU Bakersfield team as student-athletes Tylinn Carter, Alexxus Gilbert and Jerice Fears will each be serving a suspension after being ejected for fighting during their game on Saturday against Grand Canyon.
 
THE LEADER OF THE WAC
NM State has dominated in Western Athletic Conference competition as the team is 38-2 in their last 40 conference meetings, including tournament play, with a perfect 8-0 in WAC play this season. New Mexico State women's basketball also proves to be ahead of the WAC competition as they rank in the top-three in 20 of the 21 recorded team statistical categories.
 
The team's play is featured by leading the conference in seven fields over 22 games, including scoring offense (69.8 PPG), scoring defense (59.0 PPG), scoring margin (+10.8), field goal percentage (.422 FG pct.), three-point field goal defense (.278 3FG pct.), turnover margin (+4.3) and rebounding margin (+2.7).
 
MOVIN' ON UP
New Mexico State has made their biggest leap in this year's rankings on Monday. College Insider came up with their weekly Mid Major Top-25 poll and the Aggies moved all the way up to number 14 after spending most of the season around the 19 and 20 spot.
 
CHANGING THINGS UP
NM State's game against conference rival Grand Canyon University was previously scheduled for tip-off on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. MT. That game has been rescheduled and will now be played on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. MT.
 
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE AGGIES
The last game for NM State saw them continue their winning streak in Chicago, Ill. as they took on Chicago State on Saturday Feb. 4. In a game which saw the Aggies total as many rebounds as the opponent had field goal attempts (42), NM State took home a 65-54 victory.
 
WHO'S UP NEXT?
The game against CSU Bakersfield is the beginning of a three-game home stand as the team will next face-off against Grand Canyon University on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. MT.
 
The win is the ninth straight for the Aggies as the team now sits at 16-6 overall and 8-0 in WAC play this season.  Next up, NM State returns home for a three-game home stand, beginning with a game against CSU Bakersfield on Thursday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. MT.
