Thomas Ramos

Thomas Ramos joins the New Mexico State softball staff for the 2018 season.Ramos comes to NM State after spending 19 seasons as the head coach at Midland College. As the only head coach in the program's history, Ramos led the Lady Chaparrals to an 851-279-3 record while guiding the team to 17 consecutive trips to the regional tournament. He also helped Midland College to eight Western Junior College Athletic Conference titles and four National Junior College Athletic Association tournament appearances.
 
In 2017 alone, Ramos' Lady Chaps posted a 38-16 record and finished third in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference while making it to the championship of the Region V West Tournament. The team recorded a .383 batting average, a .438 on-base percentage and a .554 slugging percentage that season.
 
Ramos is no stranger to recognition and from 2002-08 was named the WJCAC Coach of the Year. He was also named the Region V Coach of the Year in 2001-03 and 2008.
 
Prior to becoming the Lady Chaps head softball coach, Ramos worked as the Midland College intramural coordinator, the volunteer men's basketball coach and the cheerleading coach from 1989-1997.
 
Ramos received his associate's degree in General Studies from Midland College in 1987 before earning his bachelor's in Kinesiology from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. He is currently pursuing his masters from UTPB.
