New Mexico State University Athletics

Emily Ancira joined NM State Athletics in September 2023 and serves as the Chief of Staff for the Aggie men’s basketball program. In her role, she oversees day-to-day operations with a focus on academic support, organizational efficiency and team logistics. Ancira manages academic monitoring, tracks assignment and grade progress, and works closely with student-athletes to support degree completion. She also oversees team travel, coordinating flights, hotels, and meals to ensure a seamless experience for coaches and players.

Before arriving at NM State, Ancira served as an Academic Success Coach at Sam Houston State University, where she supported student-athletes across seven Division I sports and worked alongside current NM State head coach Jason Hooten. She earned her bachelor’s degree in communication studies from Sam Houston State and is pursuing a master’s degree in higher education administration at New Mexico State University, expected in December 2026. Outside of work, Ancira enjoys traveling, cooking, shopping, and spending quality time with her mom, Shelley, and sister, Allie.
