A three-year letter winner at West Valley High School in Yakima, Wash. ... Finished with 131 strikeouts over last two seasons of career... Named first-team All-Columbia Basin Big Nine Conference as a senior after earning player of the year honors following junior season... As a senior, drove in 40 runs and struck out 64 over 40 innings... As a junior, went 6-0 with a 0.97 ERA with 67 strikeouts on the mound while batting .418 en route to being named the Big Nine offensive player of the year...
