LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Aggies are hosting LA Tech in a three-game series starting on May 3, at 6 p.m. MT, the second game will be played at May 4, at 4 p.m. MT, with the third and final game of the series being played at May 5, at 11 a.m. MT. The three game home stand will be the final games the Aggies will play at Presley Askew Field.
Keeping up with Jones
Keith Jones II has had a stellar year so far, with a .400 batting average Jones is second in the conference and 29th in the nation. Jones has 72 hits on the season which puts him in first in the conference and sixth in the nation.
With 58 runs, Jones leads the conference and 18th in the nation. Jones has recorded 64 RBIs, which leads the conference and ninth in the nation. Jones has 143 total bases on the season which puts him eighth in the nation and first and in the conference.
Gallina Named Conference USA Hitter of the Week (Apr. 29)
Logan Gallina becomes the second Aggie to earn Conference USA Hitter of the Week. Over the weekend Gallina recorded five hits on 10 at-bats, with each of the five hits going for extra bases.
Coming off a 3-1 week, Gallina has led the team as he recorded a team leading seven RBIs on the week. Gallina had a team leading three doubles and two home runs on the week. Gallina found himself getting on base often as he was walked three times and hit by the pitch three times this week.
This is Galina's third weekly award that he has received in his career, in 2022 he was awarded Collegiate Baseball Newspaper National Player of the Week on Mar. 7 and Apr. 25. This will be Gallina's first award he has received from the Conference USA.
Conference Leaders
After an outstanding weekend, the Aggies now lead the Conference USA in five different statistical measures most notably batting average as they have a team batting average of .304.
The Aggie offense leads the conference in walks (230), On base percentage (.418), runs (379) and runs per game (8.6). The Aggies are second in the conference in hits, home runs, slugging percentage, triples and triples per game.
Scouting the Bulldogs
The Bulldogs have a team batting average of .298, their top hitter, Cole McConnell has a batting average of .404 which leads the conference. As a team LA tech has a conference leading 490 hits. As a team they have recorded 296 RBIs.
As a team LA Tech has an ERA of 4.68, with their top starter, Luke Nichols, posting an ERA of 3.81. The Bulldogs have allowed 215 earned runs with 465 strikeouts. LA Tech have allowed 393 hits, holding their opponents to a .249 batting average.
Series History
The Aggies have played 35 games against each other with NM State winning 22 of the 13. The Aggies currently hold a four-game win streak over the Bulldogs winning the last four games in a series in Ruston, La., in 2013.
The first time that these two teams played each other was in 2001, where they played in two games at Ruston, La., The Aggies won both games in the first meeting. The Aggies have a 12-2 record against LA Tech at Presley Askew Field.
