LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The NM State Aggies will face off against the 6-7 Prairie View A&M Panthers in a three-game series this Friday, March 8 to Sunday March 10 at Presley Askew Field. The Aggies hope to extend their winning streak to seven games, which will be their longest streak win or loss of the season.
Gore is on Fire
Through the first 12 games of the season
Nick Gore has reached base safely in every game. On top of that Gore currently holds the longest hitting streak on the team with an eleven-game hit streak.
At the plate Gore has been dominating as he currently has a .457 batting average with 21 hits and 23 RBIs. Gore has a slugging percentage of .870 and an on-base percentage of .500. As far as extra base hits, Gore has hit five home runs, one triple and two doubles.
Gore has a four-game multi hit streak recording three hits in the first three games of the Northern Colorado series and two in in game four of the series. In those four games Gore recorded 14 RBIs.
The Aggies Can Score
As of March 5, the Aggies have scored 122 runs in the season which puts them in sole possession of the most runs scored across the Conference USA. From games played from the start of the season to March 5 the Aggies rank 13th in the nation in runs scored.
Both
Keith Jones II and
Mitch Namie have recorded 15 runs which leads the team. Gore is leading the team in RBIs with 23. The Aggies have scored the conference leading 122 runs on 126 hits, 20 doubles, six triples and 20 home runs.
Statistical Leaders
The Aggies currently lead the conference in six statistical measures. The first measure that the Aggies lead is walks, the Aggies have been walked 79 times in the 12 games that have been played for an average of 6.58 walks per game.
The Aggie's on base percentage is also leading the conference with a .442 on-base percentage, this is also the 26th best on-base percentage in the country as of Mar. 5. As mentioned above, the Aggies lead the conference in runs leading DBU who is in second place by eight runs.
With 122 runs the Aggies lead the conference in runs per game with 10.2. The final two statistics that the Aggies lead the conference in are Triples with six and triples per game with 0.5.
Scouting the Panthers
On the mound the Panthers have an ERA of 10.86, they have allowed 136 earned runs, 21 home runs 160 hits and 82 walks. Michael Dews leads the team in ERA with a 4.96, he has allowed nine runs, 20 hits, one home run and three walks.
At the plate, the Panthers have a batting average of .290, 125 hits, nine home runs and 102 runs. Their presence has been felt on the base paths as they have recorded 27 stolen bases in 37 attempts. Garrison Weiss leads the team with a .408 batting average, he has 20 hits, one home run and three doubles. Weiss' on-base percentage is .434 and slugging percentage is .531.
Series History
The Aggies and the Panthers faced off just once back in 2022, the Aggies won the series winning three games in the four-game series. This series was played at Presley Askew Field.
The Aggies one loss to the Panthers was the first game where they lost seven to six. The Aggies would then win the next three with the lowest margin of victory being two runs in the fourth game.
