NM State Baseball Set to Play #10 Dallas Baptist

The Aggies head to Dallas to play in their first Conference USA road series.

DALLAS- The Aggies are headed to Dallas, Texas to play conference foe #10 Dallas Baptist in a three-game series March 28, at 5:30 p.m. MT., March 29, at 5:30 p.m. MT and March 30, at 1 p.m. MT. This will be the Aggies first road series against a Conference USA foe in program history.  



Road Trip 
The Aggies are amidst a tough road trip as they have played four games in seven days. They started with a game against UNM on March 19 where they lost 4-14. With the first game played in Albuquerque, the Aggies will have to travel 829 miles from Albuquerque to Lincoln, Neb.  

For just their third road series of the season, the Aggies headed to Lincoln, Neb., in that series the Aggies lost in the two games that were played after the series finale was canceled due to weather. From there the Aggies have plans to head back west to Tucson, Ariz.  

Once in Arizona the Aggies played the Arizona Wildcats in just one mid-week game, where the Aggies earned their first road win of the season. The Aggies have one more game set against Arizona, but this game will not be played until April 24. From Arizona the Aggies will head to Dallas, Texas to play the Dallas Baptist Patriots, just their second conference foe of the season.   

Top-10 Match Up 
The Aggies have played 35 total games against teams that are ranked inside the top-10. Entering the series, Dallas Baptist is ranked number 10 according to D1Baseball. The Aggies currently have a record of 6-29 against foes inside the top-10. 

The Aggies have six total wins over a competitor who was ranked inside the top-10. Four of the wins were games played in Las Cruces, N.M., and two were on the road. The last time the Aggies defeated an opponent inside the top-10 was Feb. 21, 2012, where the Aggies defeated the Arizona Wildcats 13-8. 

Conference Rankings  
The Aggies just recently managed to regain their top spot in the conference with a .312 team batting average. This is just one of the measures that the Aggies are leading in. With 132 walks in the season the Aggies are still ahead of WKU by three walks.  

The Aggies have an impressive on-base percentage of .427 which also leads the conference, LA Tech is just behind the Aggies with an OB% of .409. After a 12-run game over the Wildcats, the Aggies bumped their runs per game to 8.9 which still leads the conference.  

With two triples hit in the Arizona game the Aggies extended their lead in triples and triples per game over the conference. The Aggies have 12 triples this season, which also puts them 8th in the nation. The Aggies have an average of .5 triples per game.  

Scouting the Patriots 
The Patriots have a team batting average of .305, six of their batters are sitting above .300 and three of the Patriots are above .350. The Patriots have recorded 48 doubles, 4, triples and 48 home runs this season. They like to run as they have 40 stolen bases in just 46 attempts.  

On the mound, the Patriots have an ERA of 3.73. The Aggies will be facing Jaron DeBarry, Ryan Johnson and Luke Pettitte, all right-handed pitchers. Johnson posted an ERA of 1.93 with a record of 4-0.  

DeBerry has six starts in the season, a 3.38 ERA and a record of 3-0. Pettitte has the least amount of starts in the rotation with four but has seven appearances. Pettitte's ERA is 3.26 and a record of 1-0.  

Series History 
The Patriots and the Aggies have played two series against each other for nine games. The Patriots are currently holding the advantage on the series with seven wins compared to the Aggies two wins. 

NM State's two wins date back to 2013 where the Aggies beat the Patriots 16-5 in the first game of the series and 7-5 in the second game of the series. The Aggies were unable to pull off the sweep as they fell in game three 12-10.
