TUCSON, Ariz. - The NM State Aggies head to Tucson, Ariz. to play the Arizona Wildcats in a mid-week match up March 26, at 6 p.m. MT. The Aggies and the Wildcats have faced off against each other in 48 total games making this game the 49th ever match up between the two schools.
Road Trip
The Aggies are amidst a tough road trip as they will play eight games in eleven days. They started with a game against UNM on March 19 where they lost 4-14. With the first game played in Albuquerque, the Aggies will have to travel 829 miles from Albuquerque to Lincoln, Neb.
For just their third road series of the season, the Aggies headed to Lincoln, Neb., in that series the Aggies lost in the two games that were played after the series finale was canceled due to weather. From there the Aggies have plans to head back west to Tucson, Ariz.
Once in Arizona the Aggies will play the Arizona Wildcats in just one mid-week game. The Aggies have one more game set against Arizona, but this game will not be played until April 24. From Arizona the Aggies will head to Dallas, Texas to play the Dallas Baptist Patriots, just their second conference foe of the season.
On-Base Streaks
Five different Aggies are currently on at least a seven-game on-base streak.
Keith Jones II is leading the way, reaching base safely in the bast 18 games. This streak is now the longest on-base streak an Aggies has held this season. Just passing
Nick Gore who reached base in the first 17 games of the season.
Damone Hale is just behind Jones with a 16 game on-base streak as he has recorded 22 hits, six walks and he was hit by the pitch twice in those sixteen games.
Romeo Ballesteros,
Mitch Namie and
Steve Solorzano are currently on a seven-game hit streak, Solorzano has not played since March 4 against Northern Colorado. Namie and Ballesteros' hit streak dates to March13 where the Aggies faced off against Texas Tech.
Conference Rankings
Throughout the conference the Aggies ae still leading in five different statistical measures. The first stat category that the Aggies lead in is walks as they have recorded 131 walks on the season.
The Aggies are also leading in on-base percentage as they have a .428 OB%. After a down spell in runs against Nebraska the Aggies still hold onto their lead in the conference in scoring as they have an average of 8.8 runs per game. With 10 triples in the season the Aggies still lead the conference in triples and triples per game.
Jones is leading the conference in walks and walks per game with 23 walks, which is two more than WKU's Blake Cavill who has 21. With 23 games the Aggies have played Jones is averaging a walk per game.
Scouting the Wildcats
The Wildcats have a team batting average of .280, with their top hitter, Garen Caulfield batting .381. Five different Wildcats are batting above .300 of qualifying individuals. Compared to the Aggies who have six hitters above .300.
On the mound, the Wildcats have an ERA of 4.52 with their top pitcher recording an ERA of 2.70. The Wildcats have given up 110 runs, 95 of them have been earned. Arizona has allowed 202 hits, 63 walks and struck out 199 batters.
Series History
The Aggies currently have a record of 8-40 against the Wildcats. These two teams have played in 22 different series against each other. Most games have been played in Tucson as there have only been two games played at Presley Askew Field.
The last time these teams played each other was April 11, 2023, where the Aggies lost 2-14. The Aggies last win over the Wildcats was in 2012 where they defeated them 13-8 on March 21 in Tucson.
