NM State Baseball Set to Host Northern Colorado

The Aggies will face off against the Bears in a four-game series this Friday March 1 to Monday, March 4

Las Cruces, N.M. - NM State baseball is set to host the Northern Colorado Bears this weekend Fri., March 1 – Mon. March 4 at Presley Askew Field. The four-game series is the fourteenth series these two teams have faced each other since 1973. 



Hitting Streaks 
Catcher Nick Gore is currently on a seven-game hitting streak through the first eight games of the season. In the lone game that Gore did not record a hit, he did happen to be walked in his single plate appearance.  

In the eight games played, Gore has recorded ten hits and five walks. Gore has reached base safely in each of the eight games. Amid his hitting streak Gore also recorded a three-game multi-hit streak where he recorded two hits in all three games.  

Base-on-balls 
The NM State Aggies are currently tied for 16th at drawing walks. Through the eight games that the Aggies have been walked 59 times. The Aggies have averaged 7.38 walks per game. 

The Aggies are currently sitting at the top of the conference at drawing walks. They are 15 walks ahead of Jax State who has 44 walks on the season.  

Scouting the Bears 
The Northern Colorado Bears have a team batting average of .220 with their top hitter having an average of .323. Their on-base percentage is .318 with a slugging percentage of .302. As a unit they have recorded 61 hits, eleven doubles, two triples and four home runs.  

On the mound, the Bears have an ERA of 7.48, with their top pitcher having an ERA of 8.31. The opponents who have faced the Bears have a batting average of .301. They have allowed 80 hits, 54 earned runs and 48 walks.  

The Bears are 0-8 on the season with four losses to both LA Tech and Tarleton State. Both teams that the Aggies will play this season. LA Tech will be the last opponent the Aggies will play in Presley Askew Field. The Aggies have plans to play Tarleton State on April 16-17. 

Series History 
The Aggies and the Bears have faced each other in thirteen different series. In which they have played 42 games. The Aggies, so far, have dominated the Bears by having a record of 30-12. 

At home the Aggies have fared well against the Bears, having a record of 20-9 in Las Cruces. The Aggies also hold a nine-game win streak over the Bears.  

The first series that these two teams played against each other was in 1973. The Aggies won the first two games of the three-game series by scores of 9-1 and 3-1, unfortunately the Aggies could not complete the week and lost in game three 7-4.  

The last time the Aggies and the Bears played each other was in 2021 when the Aggies pulled off a clean sweep in the four-game series. In that series, the Aggies scored 41 runs.
