NM State Drops WAC Opener; Will Host Senior Day on Sunday

Aggies return home to host Grand Canyon on Sunday

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – On the final day of March, the Aggies officially got their WAC season underway as they battled with a tough Seattle U squad at the NM State Tennis Center. The Redhawks ultimately pulled out a narrow 4-3 win over the Aggies.

DOUBLES
  • Following a doubles loss on line three, Yehor Opanasenko and Jordy Visser pulled the Aggies even as they managed a 6-2 win over the Redhawks' top doubles team in Clement Hamel and Veselin Kiselkov. However, this would be the only result that would finish in the Aggies' favor as Seattle U would take hold of the doubles point with a win at the No. 2 position.
SINGLES
  • NM State quickly found itself in a 3-1 hole on the scoreboard after Itay Feigin's 6-4, 6-4 win over Michael Frank was answered with a pair of Redhawk wins on lines four and three.
  • Luca Fé D'Ostiani and Corey Clarke then picked up necessary wins to help the Aggies match the Redhawk points with one match left to wrapped up.
  • Fé D'Ostiani claimed his fourth win of the season with a 7-6, 6-3 victory over Yu-Han Hsieh at the No. 6 spot.
  • Clarke traded sets with Clement Hamel at the No. 1 position (6-3, 3-6) before pulling off a 6-3 win in the third and final set. Unfortunately, this would be the Aggies' win of the afternoon as Seattle U tallied its fourth point with a win at No. 2 while also securing the match.
UP NEXT
NM State will look to bounce back on Sunday when they host Grand Canyon at the NM State Tennis Center. The Aggies and Lopes will begin competition at approximately 1 p.m.
