IRVINE, Calif. - The NM State women's soccer team (3-9-1) held a 1-0 lead at halftime but two second half goals from California Baptist (9-1-2) would be too much to overcome, as the Aggies fell 2-1 Saturday afternoon at the Championship Soccer Stadium in Irvine, Calif.
Much like Thursday's match, the Aggies took the early lead in the 12th minute off of
Shea O'Connor's fourth goal of the year. O'Connor received a cross-field pass from
Loma McNeese leaving her with just the goalie to beat, and she would deliver. The Aggies took the 1-0 lead into halftime thanks to four saves from
Makenna Gottschalk. The Aggie defense came out strong in the second half, but the Lancers found the back of the net in the 70th minute to tie the game. The Lancers struck again in the 83rd minute which would ultimately be the game-winning goal.
The Aggies struggled to get many shots off, as they mustered just six shots compared to the Lancers' 23 shots. Gottschalk finished the day with seven saves for the Aggies.Â
NM State will continue WAC play next week at the NM State Soccer Athletic Complex with two matches against Dixie State. Thursday's match will begin at 4 p.m. with Saturday's match starting a 1 p.m. Both games will be streamed live on the WAC Digital Network. Tickets will be sold at the gate starting one hour before kickoff.
