LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The NM State soccer team (3-7) could not get the offense going in a 1-0 loss to UTRGVÂ on a windy Saturday afternoon at the NM State Soccer Athletic Complex. Saturday's game was the first time the Aggies have played in Las Cruces since Oct. 24, 2019.
Much like Thursday's game, the Aggies were in attack mode from the start, as they controlled the time of possession in the first half. The Aggies were able to six six shots off compared to the Vaqueros two. Sophomore
Xitlaly Hernandez and freshman
Megan Ormson each had good looks in the first half but were unable to find the back of the net. The Vaqueros broke the tie in the 50th minute, and the Aggies were able to get off only two shots in the final 40 minutes of the match.
Redshirt senior
Dmitri Fong got the start in the net for the Aggies and recorded three saves. Hernandez and Ormson took seven out of the nine shots for the Aggies while
Emma Smith and
Corey Kizer each added a shot.
NM State will be on the road next week, as they head to Riverside, Calif., to take on California Baptist. The teams will play on Thursday and Saturday with both games beginning at 3 p.m.
