HORTON HITS A BOOM
Nationally,
Kelsey Horton ranks first in career home runs (65), third in career total bases (485), fifth in RBI (194) and seventh for runs scored (193).
The senior continues to climb in the NM State career record books. The slugger is record holder for total bases and home runs. She set the new home run record during New Mexico State's 4-2 victory over GCU last weekend. Horton also ranks second in hits (243) runs scored, RBI, and sacrifice flies (11) while also sitting in third for doubles (42).
LAST TIME OUT
The Aggies went 2-1 against Grand Canyon last weekend. NM State won the series opener 4-2 in walk-off fashion before shutting out the Lopes in the series finale 4-0.
Shelby Shultes hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to give New Mexico State its first win of the weekend. During the 4-0 victory,
Analise De La Roca and
Samaria Diaz pitched a combined shutout and Diaz picked up her fifth save of the season, a new NM State single-season record.
LOOKING AT THE LOBOS
New Mexico sits at 12-31 on the season with a 3-12 record in Mountain West Conference play. The team posts a .246 batting average accompanied with an 8.42 ERA from the Lobo pitchers. Cameryn O'Grady holds a .364 batting average and a .661 slugging percentage, having started all 43 contests for the Lobos. In the circle, Kennedy Ferguson posts a squad-best 6.55 ERA for UNM with 68 strikeouts for the season.
NM State comes into the contest 3-0 against the Lobos this season. Diaz pitched an 8-0 six-inning victory before De La Roca posted an 11-3 win during the last meeting between the teams. Last season when New Mexico State played at UNM, NM State came away victorious during the 12-7 battle.
COMING UP: SENIOR SENDOFF
Following the midweek tilt, the Aggies returns home for their final Western Athletic Conference series at the NM State Softball Complex this season. New Mexico State hosts Kansas City for a single contest at 6 p.m. on Friday. April, 26 before a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
