LAST TIME OUT
New Mexico State took down UT Rio Grande Valley in straight sets on Thursday to remain undefeated in WAC play. Savannah Davison led the team with 12 kills while Megan Hart followed closely behind with 10. Natalie Mikels posted a squad-best 17 assists. Julianna Salanoa paced the Crimson and White with seven total blocks and Ashley Anselmo notched five blocks in the victory.
WHERE IN THE WAC
NMÂ State leads the conference in hitting percentage (.262), opponent hitting percentage (.097), and blocks (2.96). Nationally, the Crimson and White are first for opponent hitting percentage and fifth for blocks.
Hart ranks first in the league with a .421 hitting clip and the redshirt senior is also third in blocks (1.08). Salanoa leads the WAC with 1.35 blocks and places sixth with a .315 hitting percentage. Mikels is seventh in aces (0.31) and assists (5.82) while Davison ranks second for points (3.89) and third in kills (3.25).
In conference matches alone, the Aggies hold the top spot for hitting percentage (.250), opponent hitting percentage (.087) and blocks (3.20). Individually, Salanoa comes in first for blocks (1.60) and third for hitting percentage (.395). Hart follows closely behind in second for blocks (1.40) and seventh for hitting percentage (.357). Davison is second in aces (0.50) and points (4.35) while also coming in sixth for kills (3.50). Analyssa Acosta ranks fourth for digs (4.10) while Mikels and Krysten Garrison share the seventh-place spot with 5.50 assists per set.
SCOUTING THE LANCERS
California Baptist posts a 7-8 overall record for 2019 and the Lancers are 1-1 against league opponents. CBU fell to Kansas City in its conference opener but rallied to defeat Chicago State 3-1 in the next match. As a team, the Lancers rank third in the WAC for aces (1.51) and digs (14.84).
Individually, Paige Johnstone paces the conference with 0.29 aces per set and Elizabeth Gilley is fourth in the league with 0.36. Natalie Zimmerer averages 8.11 assists per set while Sydney Marks comes in with 2.84 kills per set.
COMING UP: BACK IN WACTION
Following the road trip, New Mexico State returns to the Pan American Center for a pair of conference matches. The Aggies welcome CSU Bakersfield on Thursday, Oct. 10, with first serve scheduled for 6 p.m. MT. NM State closes out the weekend with a game against Grand Canyon at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12.
