SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Arizona heads into the midweek tilt holding a 4-3 overall record with a 3-0 mark at home. The Wildcats have lost three of their last four, most recently falling to Sand Diego, 5-3, at the Tony Gwynn Classic on Feb. 25.
Of the usual starters, Arizona is led at the plate by Alfonso Rivas who is the only player posting a batting average above .300 with a .333 mark through seven games. Rivas also has the sole home run on the year for the Wildcats.
Tuesday starter Randy Labaut holds an 0-1 record with a 1.08 earned run average through 8.1 innings pitched. The sophomore left-hande has made three appearances, including one start, and has thrown eight strikeouts to just one walk.
From the bullpen the Wildcats have seen the most action from Robby Medel who leads the team with four appearances. Medel has a 1-0 record with a 0.00 ERA through five innings of work.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
The Western Athletic Conference announced its baseball players of the week on Monday, Feb. 26. Following a historic weekend in a series sweep of Mississippi Valley State the Aggies saw
Noah Haupt and
Kyle Bradish earn WAC Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.
Haupt was instrumental in the Aggies' record-setting weekend, totaling 11 runs and 15 RBIs on the week. Haupt was 11-for-15 from the plate with six extra-base hits, posting a .611 batting average to go along with a 1.222 slugging percentage and .625 on-base percentage.
The freshman's biggest game came in NM State's 39-0 win over Mississippi Valley State on Friday night, going 6-for-7 with a double, two home runs, six runs scored and 10 RBIs. He finished the week with three doubles, a triple and two home runs.
Bradish kept rolling with his second straight gem in as many starts on Friday night against MVSU. He struck out 12 batters and walked just two while allowing two hits over 6.0 shutout innings. Earning the win to improve to 2-0 on the season, the junior has struck out 23 batters in 11.1 innings pitched and has allowed just one run on four hits for a 0.79 ERA.
This is now the third player of the week honor given to an NM State baseball player in the first two weeks of the season with outfielder
Marcus Still being named WAC Hitter of the Week on Feb. 19.
