TAKING A LOOK AT TECH
Texas Tech enters the week ranked third in the nation by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.  The Red Raiders opened the season with a series sweep of Maine in four games. Through four games they combined to outscore the Black Bears 49-14.

As a team the Red Raiders posted a .366 batting average, good for fourth in the nation, with 23 extra-base hits, including 12 doubles, four triples and seven home runs. Over the weekend, Texas Tech's Tuesday starter Ryan Shetter tossed one inning of no-hit ball.

After the series win Red Raiders Josh Jung & Gabe Holt were named Big 12 Player & Newcomer of the Week, respectively. Jung, a sophomore infielder from San Antonio, recorded the most hits of any Big 12 player this week, totaling 10, four for extra bases. He hit a home run every day of the weekend, racking up a conference-high 10 RBI. Holt, a freshman infielder from Bonaire, Georgia, tallied eight hits in his collegiate debut, with two doubles, a triple and a homer. He also drove in six RBI and scored five runs, while leading conference freshmen in batting average and ranking seventh overall in the league.

HITTER OF THE WEEK
New Mexico State's Marcus Still earned hitter of the week on Feb. 19 after leading the Aggies at the plate through three games against Towson.

Still went 8-for-9 with four walks as NM State took two of three from Towson. In the season opener, the New Orleans, La. native was 2-for-2 with a pair of walks and a pair of RBIs in a 24-4 win. His only falter came in game two, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored in an 11-6 loss.

The Aggies and Still bounced back on Sunday when the outfielder went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored in a 13-3 win. His .889 average leads the WAC after the opening weekend of play.

LAST TIME OUT
Following a cancellation on opening night due to rain, the New Mexico State baseball team began the 2018 season with a doubleheader against Towson on Saturday, Feb. 17, on Presley Askew Field. Following a dominant 24-4 victory in game one, the Aggie bats could not find the same pop falling in game two, 11-6.

The high-scoring game one featured 11 runs for NM State in the bottom of the fifth, which is the highest run total for the Aggies in a single inning since scoring 12 against Alabama A&M back on March 16, 2013.

A strong outing from southpaw Jonathan Groff coupled with another offensive outburst gave the New Mexico State baseball team the series win over Towson on opening weekend with a 13-3 victory on Sunday at Presley Askew Field.

Marcus Still raked for the Aggies at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two runs, two RBI and a walk. The bulk of the damage offensively came from the bottom of the line-up that combined to hit 9-for-11 with eight runs, five RBI and five walks.

UP NEXT
Following the midweek match-up, New Mexico State returns to the City of Crosses to host Mississippi Valley State for a three-game series. Play begins on Friday, Feb. 23, with first pitch set for 4 p.m. MT. The series concludes with a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 24, beginning at 1 p.m.
