NM State Travels to Providence for Brown Invitational

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State volleyball travels to Providence, R.I. on Friday to compete in the Brown Invitational. The Aggies are set to face off against Central Connecticut at 3 p.m. on Friday. They will also take on Binghamton and host Brown on Saturday at 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., respectively.
 
Saturday's game against Brown will be streamed live. Fans can watch the match on the Ivy League Digital Network.
 
NM State comes into the weekend after opening their home schedule with the annual Borderland Invitational. The Aggies went 1-2 in the tournament, with the squad coming out on top in a five-set thriller against Sacramento State. NM State was led by junior Jordan Abalos, who racked up 38 kills and earned her sixth and seventh double-doubles of the season. Against Pac-12 foe Arizona, Abalos set a new career high with 19 kills.
 
The Aggies will be facing two opponents for the first time this weekend in Central Connecticut and Binghamton. In their last meeting with the lone familiar foe in the tournament, Brown, NM State swept the match in straight sets in Las Cruces last season.
 
Central Connecticut is led by Madelyn Kaprelyan, who has put up 57 kills so far this season and averages 2.48 per set. On defense, the Blue Devils are paced by Rachel Fish and Maddie Smith with 141 digs and 43 blocks, respectively.
 
Binghamton is led offensively by Lauren Kornmann, who has racked up 73 kills with an average of 2.92 per set. Defensively, the Bearcats turn to Bailey Walker with 148 digs. Additionally, Binghamton is led on defense by Bianca Anderson and Kristella Morina, who have 24 blocks apiece.
 
Offensively, Brown is paced by Makena Ehlert with 64 kills and 2.37 kills per set. Melissa Cairo and Jacqueline Jacobs are the leaders for the Bears on defense with 79 digs and 25 blocks, respectively.
