LAS CRUCES, N.M – New Mexico State was unable to get the clutch hit when they needed it on Sunday, as they fell to Utah Valley 6-1. This was the first WAC series loss of the season for NM State, after winning the first three series of the conference slate.

Utah Valley got on the board first in the third inning, as they got a single to center to lead off the inning. That runner was caught stealing second during the next at-bat for the first out. UVU's Zac Willis and Greyson Bogden scored the Wolverines' first runs of the game with back-to-back solo home runs, putting UVU up 2-0.
Â
The Aggies scored their first and only run in the bottom half of the inning as
Brent Sakurai singled through the right side of the infield.
Greg Popylisen singled to right, putting runners on the corners with two outs.
Dan Hetzel scored Sakurai with a single to left center.
Â
UVU extended their lead in the fifth as a run scored on a double to left center. They scored two more in the sixth on a double down the left field line. The Wolverines would score their final run in the top of the ninth on a single to left center.
Â
All told, NM State scattered eight hits and left seven runners on base.

The Aggies are back in action on Wednesday, as they travel to Tucson, Ariz. for a midweek game against Arizona.
