Box Score 2 LAS VEGAS – After falling 5-3 to Florida Atlantic in the first game of the day, the NM State softball team bounced back and captured a 12-4 victory over Saint Mary's on Saturday morning in the UNLV Classic at Eller Media Stadium.
Game One The Aggies (16-7) scored three runs and collected three RBIs on seven hits against Florida Atlantic (16-1).
Kelsey Horton amassed two hits, which included a home run.
Kayla Green pitched 6.0 innings and faced 26 batters.
Florida Atlantic scored five runs and had five RBIs on nine hits. Amanda Wilson pitched 4.0 innings and allowed three runs on six hits in 19 batters faced.
NM State loaded the bases in the top of the first inning.
Emma Adams was hit by a pitch and advanced to third as
Kelsey Horton hit a double to left center.
Fahren Glackin walked to load the bases, but the three Aggies were left stranded.
Florida Atlantic took the lead in the bottom of the first inning. After Carnesha Thompson hit a triple to right field, Emily Lochten hit an RBI single straight up the middle to score Thompson. In the second inning, Tatum Buckley hit a double to left center and then scored as Delaney Ricky singled to left center to give FAU a 2-0 advantage.
The Aggies used two home runs to take a 3-2 lead in the top of the third inning. Horton hit a solo home run to left field for the first score of the game. After Glackin was walked,
Victoria Castro hit a two RBI home run to straightaway center.
FAU regained the lead in the bottom of the third inning. Thompson hit a single to straightaway center and scored as Lochten hit a two RBI home run to left field. M. Martinez hit a double to left field before Alex Miller doubled to right center to score M. Martinez as FAU took a 5-3 advantage to win the game.
Game Two NM State scored 12 runs and garnered 11 RBIs on 14 hits against Saint Mary's (4-13).
Alexis Maynez had a team-high three hits and four RBIs in her first career start.
Makayla McAdams pitched 3.2 innings and allowed just two hits and one run in 13 batters faced.
The Gaels scored four runs and had four RBIs on eight hits. Katie Moss pitched 1.0 innings and allowed six runs on four hits in nine batters faced.
Saint Mary's jumped out to a quick lead in the top of the first inning. Katelyn Mamizuka doubled to center field and Hailey Sparacino walked. The runners advanced as Andrea Hazel hit a single up the middle to load the bases. Mamizuka scored as Lollie Fitzgerald hit a single to right center before Bailey Lotz singled to right center to score Sparacino as Saint Mary's took a 2-0 advantage.
NM State scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead. H. Nakamura hit a double to left center and scored as
Kelsey Horton hit a home run to left field.
Corrin Green was walked, Castro singled to left field and
Fahren Glackin was walked to load the bases. Maynez then hit a grand slam, the first home run of her career, to give the Aggies a 6-2 advantage.
The Gaels cut into the lead in the top of the second inning. Dylan Linton singled to shortstop and scored as Mamizuki hit a double to left field, but the Aggies scored in the bottom of the inning to extend the lead again. Rodriguez hit a triple down the left field line and scored as H. Nakamura hit a double to left field to give NM State a 7-3 advantage.
The Aggies scored again in the bottom of the fourth inning. Green was walked and
Amy Bergeson entered as a pinch runner. Castro reached on a fielder's choice and Bergeson advanced to third on an error by the second baseman. Finau then hit a sacrifice fly to score Bergeson as NM State took an 8-3 lead.
Saint Mary's scored another run in the top of the fifth inning. Hazel hit a double to center field and scored as Fitzpatrick doubled to left center. NM State extended the lead again in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Alexis Maynez hit a bunt single and Jasmine stokes entered as a pinch runner. Stokes advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Misty Hoohuli and moved to third as Rodriguez grounded out to second base. Stokes scored as
Nue Sivia hit a single to right field.
H. Nakamura re-entered for Sivia and advanced to second as Horton hit a single up the middle. Green hit a single to left field and advanced to second on the throw as H. Nakamura scored. Castro's single to right field scored Horton before Finau was walked to load the bases. Green then scored on a wild pitch to give NM State a 12-4 victory after five innings.
The Aggies play again tomorrow as they face No. 7 Oregon at 12:15 p.m. MT in their final game of the UNLV Classic.
