ABILENE, Texas – NM State opened play at the ACU Invite today with three hard-fought singles victories and a pair of doubles wins to begin their weekend in Texas.
Whitney Moon earned one of the highlights of the day, grinding out a 6-3, 7-6 decision over LA Tech's Maria Tsironi in Flight D. Montana Parkinson-Lubold also delivered for the Aggies, outlasting Tarleton State's Duru Kuscu 6-3, 6-4, [10-6] in Flight E. Freshman Anna Klimova rounded out the singles success, picking up a gritty 6-2, 6-3, [11-9] win against Tarleton State's Dariaa Medviedieva in Flight G.
In doubles action, the duo of Moon and Emma Petton grabbed a 6-4 win against Sam Houston's Fitcher and Subba in Flight C, while Parkinson-Lubold and Mariella Gelbke topped Venkatakrishnan and Garza of Sam Houston, 6-3, in Flight D.
Elsewhere, Anna Pinaieva and Petton each fell in tough singles matches, while Gelbke dropped her contest in Flight F. Pinaieva and Moon rebounded in doubles with a 6-3 win over UTA's Mladentseva and Cado after dropping their opener against Texas Tech.
