TUSCON, Ariz. - NM State opened its fall campaign on Friday at the Wildcat Invite, highlighted by sophomore Matias Rojas' commanding straight-sets win in singles play.
Rojas made quick work of UNLV's Roberto Hernandez, earning a flawless 6-0, 6-0 victory to secure the Aggies' lone win of the day. Elsewhere, freshman Laurendi Fischer dropped his debut match against UNLV's Michael Kouame, 6-0, 6-4, while senior Patrick Lohmann fell in a close battle with New Mexico's Tyler Waddock, 7-6, 6-4. Holland Snell also pushed San Diego State's Brock Anderson to three sets before narrowly coming up short, 6-4, 2-6, 7-6.
In doubles action, Snell and Lance Urlaub picked up where they left off last season, powering past UNLV's Vitality Horovoy and Hernandez, 6-3. Meanwhile, the duo of Tobias Wallin and Roko Stipetic dropped a tight 6-4 decision to New Mexico's Jakub Pracher and Waddock.
The Aggies will return to the courts at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center on Saturday morning for day two action.
