Aggies Fall in Tight Battle with Grand Canyon

NM State to finish out the weekend of play against Marymount tomorrow.

NM State 3, Grand Canyon 4
NM State faced a hard-fought battle on Friday against Grand Canyon, ultimately coming up just short in a 4-3 loss. The Aggies showed resilience throughout the match, especially in singles play, where they claimed three hard-earned victories.

In singles, Lance Urlaub delivered a stellar performance, dominating Jonathan Da Silva 6-0 in the opening set before holding his composure in a tight second set tiebreak to secure the match, 6-0, 7-6. Itay Feigin showed grit in a three-set contest, emerging victorious against Brice Patoux 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. Freshman Matias Rojas showcased immense poise in a tightly contested match against seasoned graduate player Matteo Lugari. Despite a valiant effort, Rojas fell just short in three nail-biting sets, 7-5, 5-7, 6-4.

Doubles play proved to be the turning point, as NM State was unable to secure a win across the three matches. The returning tandem of Gustavo Campos and Tobias Wallin pushed the duo of Patoux and David Wekesa to the limit but ultimately came up just shy, falling 6-4.
