Aggies to Face Off with Middle Tennessee in CUSA Semifinals

NM State seeks program’s first-ever CUSA Tournament title.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The NM State men's tennis team will open its postseason this Saturday as they open the CUSA Tournament against host and No. 1 seed Middle Tennessee at the MTSU Tennis Complex. The match between the Aggies and Blue Raiders is scheduled to get underway at 9 a.m. MT.

FIRST SERVE
  • The Aggies enter the end-of-season tournament with a 9-12 record and will be coming off a win on Wednesday as they arrived in the Volunteer State a few days early to battle with Tennessee Tech. While in Cookeville, Tenn., the Aggies generated a 4-1 win over the Eagles – building some momentum they hope to carry one hour down the road.
  • In the conference tourney, NM State draws No. 34 MTSU who has managed an 18-9 record this season and will be riding a four-match win streak entering the single-elimination dual against the Aggies.
  • The Crimson and White will be looking to get off to a strong start against the Blue Raiders and will likely bring a new look to the doubles courts to do so as Head Coach Carlos Vargas put together two new pairing against Tennessee Tech on Wednesday.
  • Meanwhile, in singles, the Aggies' top performer has been Tobias Wallin who enters the weekend with a team-best eight singles wins, including a strong 5-2 record at No. 2. Aside from Wallin, the Aggies have used a balanced attack in singles play this season as five other Aggies have at least five victories this spring.
  • In its first season in the new league, NM State will be seeking the program's first-ever CUSA Tournament title. However, NM State has earned three NCAA Tournament births since in the last 10 years as they were crowned WAC Tournament Champions in 2015, 2016 and 2018.
