Box Score COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – NM State capped off its regular season on Wednesday afternoon as they defeated Tennessee Tech 4-1 at the Tennessee Tech Tennis Courts. With the victory, the Aggies will enter the postseason with an 8-12 overall record and will now prepare for a first-round matchup against Middle Tennessee in the Conference USA Championship.
After falling at No. 1, the Aggie tandems on lines No. 2 and No. 3 helped NM State get back on track with a pair of wins to give the Aggies the doubles point. At No. 3,
Patrick Lohmann and Luca Fé d'Ostiani picked up a 6-3 win while
Itay Feigin and
Tobias Wallin combined to earn a narrow 7-6 win at No. 2 to clinch the doubles point.
The Aggies then carried over the momentum to singles play as they would earn the match victory with singles wins at No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6. Luca Fé d'Ostiani got things started with a commanding 6-2, 6-2 win over his Tennessee Tech counterpart at No. 6.
Eventually, the Eagles would earn their first point with a win at No. 2, however this would be immediately offset by a 6-3, 6-4 Aggie win at No. 5 from
Patrick Lohmann. Then, with Tennessee Tech on the ropes,
Roko Stipetic would deliver the knockout blow with a come-from-behind win at No. 3. After falling 6-1 in the opening set, Stipetic bounced back to win the second set 6-3 before sealing the deal with a shutout 6-0 win in the third set to clinch the match for the visiting Aggies.
