Aggies Wrap Up UNLV Quad on Sunday Morning

| By:

NM State returns to action on Feb. 10 when it hosts Western New Mexico.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 LAS VEGAS – NM State concluded its stay in Las Vegas on Sunday morning as they competed against UNLV at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. In all, the Aggies finished the weekend with a pair of wins and a pair of losses as the Runnin' Rebels defeated the Aggies 4-0. With the loss, NM State falls to 2-3 during the spring season.

NM State 4, Hawai'i 3
In the day's opener, NM State picked up a come-from-behind victory over Hawai'i after dropping the doubles point to the Rainbow Warriors.

In doubles play, Tobias Wallin and Gustavo Campos were the only Aggie duo to tally a win as they knocked off the top duo from Hawai'i – winning 6-3. Unfortunately, Hawai'i secured wins on the second and third line to earn the edge entering singles action.

Once the match turned to singles play, NM State hit an extra gear as it clinched wins at the No. 2, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 spots to tally the necessary four points to earn their second team win of the weekend.

Ricardo Mercado was the first Aggie to secure a win as his 6-4, 7-5 win over Hawai'i's Urano evened the score and put both teams three wins away from the victory.

Following Mercado's win, the Aggies found themselves in a significant hole as the Rainbow Warriors secured wins at positions one and three to take hold of a 3-1 lead with three matches still in play.

NM State's Patrick Lohmann put himself in a good spot to earn a win as he won the first set 6-3, however, Hawai'i's Somerville bounced back to win the second set 6-0. Lohmann then showed true resiliency as he put together a 7-5 win in the third set to win the match.

Itay Feigin followed Lohmann's win with a victory of his own as he defeated his Rainbow Warrior opponent, 7-5, 6-4, leaving the match in the hands of Gustavo Campos at the No. 4 spot.

The former NJCAA All-American proved to be up to the task as he claimed a very hard-fought win over Hawai'i's Collins. Campos won the first set 6-4, before falling 5-7 in the second frame to set up an all-important third set. This is where Campos would shine as he managed a 7-5 win to secure the win in the morning match for the Aggies.

NM State 2, Weber State 4
In their second match of the day, NM State fell to Weber State after the Wildcats were able to pick up the doubles point before winning three of the next five singles matches.

After falling behind 1-0 following doubles action, NM State found some success in singles play as freshman standout Tobias Wallin secured a win at the No. 1 position. The win would ultimately come by retirement, however, Wallin dominated the first set – winning 6-1. Wallin then led 5-0 before the match concluded.

Later, Patrick Lohmann worked his way to a 7-6, 6-1 victory over the Wildcats' Savio. Unfortunately, this would be the final singles win for the Aggies as Weber State went on to secure the match with a trio of wins in singles play.

NM State 0, UNLV 4
NM State returned to the courts on Sunday morning to take on host UNLV on the final day of the UNLV Quad.

The Aggies were unable to close out the weekend with a win as UNLV took advantage of being on their home courts and controlled the match from the start to the finish.

In doubles action, Gustavo Campos and Tobias Wallin led their opponents 3-2 but UNLV picked up wins at both No. 2 and No. 3 to clinch the doubles point.

Later, the Runnin' Rebels put together wins at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 to secure the victory.
