LAS CRUCES, N.M. – For the fifth straight time, NM State protected its home courts as they moved to 4-2 in WAC play behind a 5-2 victory over Stephen F. Austin on Sunday at the NM State Tennis Center.
DOUBLES
- Miranda Bishard and Bella Nguyen continued their dominance and pushed their win streak to three matches as they handed Felicia Back and Zala Ule a 6-3 loss at the No. 2 position to pick up their 10th win as a duo this season.
- After SFA evened the score with a win on the top line, NM State earned the doubles point by way of a tight 7-6 (7-5) win from Valeriia Ivanovskaia and Dora Kurdi over Elena Bleicher and Ksenia Mamontova.
SINGLES
- For the second time this weekend, the Aggies began singles play in need of just three wins. After SFA earned a win at the No. 5 position, Miranda Bishard put the Aggies one win closer to a team victory as she powered her way to a 6-2, 6-3 win over Jemma Cave on line four.
- Anna Pinaieva then solidified herself as one of the Aggies' top singles performers as she secured a commanding 6-2, 6-2 win over the Jacks' Alkmini Giannakogiorgou at the No. 1 spot – joining Bishard as one of two Aggies with double-digit wins this season.
- Dora Kurdi has arguably been the hottest singles player as of late and she continued her winning ways when she knocked off Saga Koch 6-4, 6-4 to secure her fourth consecutive singles win and the match victory. Kurdi is also a perfect 3-0 in WAC play and has yet to drop a singles match since falling on Jan. 28 against UTSA.
- Lisa Zhu later became the third Aggie to tally 10 singles wins on the season as she bounced back from a 0-6 loss in the first set to defeat Ksenia Mamontova 0-6, 6-4, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot.
