NM State Welcomes Pair of Texas Programs

WAC play rolls on as Sam Houston and SFA visit Las Cruces over the weekend.

FIRST SERVE
• Following a Texas road trip in which it fell to UT Arlington and UTRGV over the weekend, NM State will look to bounce back at home as they host Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
• The Aggies are now 2-2 in WAC play with five league matches remaining on their schedule as they look to position themselves to defend their WAC Tournament title beginning on April 27.
• After 17 matches, NM State is led in singles play by a trio of Aggies who have each tallied eight wins on the season. Anna Pinaieva, Lisa Zhu and Miranda Bishard have all worked their way to the eight-win mark.
• Pinaivea and Bishard have also been effective In conference action as they are joined by Bella Nguyen and Valeriia Ivanovskaia to post the Aggies' best singles record in WAC play at 2-1.
• In doubles action, Bella Nguyen and Miranda Bishard continue to lead the way with eight victories while the No. 1 tandem of Anna Pinaieva and Lisa Zhu  rank second on the team in doubles wins with six on the season.
 
SCOUTING THE BEARKATS
The women of Sam Houston have put together a record of 4-8 on the year and will head to Las Cruces with just one win in their last five matches. Most recently, SHSU fell 6-1 at home versus Tarleton. In the loss, Sam Houston's Paula Cerda earned the Bearkats' lone victory as she topped Tarleton's Emma Persson on the No. 1 line.
 
SCOUTING THE LUMBERJACKS
SFA enters the weekend with a 9-8 record and will face off with Grand Canyon in Phoenix on Friday before traveling to The City of Crosses to take on the Aggies on Sunday. Thus far, Stephen F. Austin is just 1-2 in WAC play and 2-4 on the road.
 
UP NEXT
Next weekend, the Aggies will hit the road to take on Abilene Christian and Tarleton on Thursday and Saturday, respectively, before traveling to Waco, Texas, to face off with Big 12 foe Baylor on Sunday. NM State will then wrap up its regular season with a home bout versus Grand Canyon on April 16.
