LAS CRUCES, N.M. – After representing the WAC in the NCAA Tournament last season, the Aggies picked up a commanding win in the debut match of the conference season. NM State took down Utah Tech 7-0 while also going a perfect 15-0 in sets against the Trailblazers.
The win over Utah Tech also marks the eighth straight season that the Aggies have won their WAC opener.
DOUBLES
- The Aggies took command of the match from the start, earning wins on all three courts in doubles action. Valeriia Ivanovskaia and Dora Kurdi teamed up for just the second time this season and they were able to collect their first win of the season as a duo. The tandem defeated Utah Tech's Alysha Damron and Jane Dorny.
- Moments later, Miranda Bishard and Bella Nguyen tallied their team-best sixth doubles win of the spring season as they knocked off Ya-Chi Hsu and Adithi Venkatakrishnan by a score of 6-4
- With the doubles point already in hand, Anna Pinaieva and Lisa Zhu added a third win just for good measure when they topped the Trailblazers' Rachel Mellor and Annemiek Sterk.
SINGLES
- NM State's momentum carried over into singles play as they went a perfect six-for-six in singles matches against the Trailblazers. Bella Nguyen started her conference season in dominant fashion as she picked up a quick 6-0, 6-3 win over Annemiek Sterk at the No. 3 position.
- At the No. 1 spot, freshman Anna Pinaieva displayed her talents by taking out Rachel Mellor 6-3, 6-1 to lock in her sixth win in singles action this season.
- Valeriia Ivanovskaia made her WAC debut and earned her first win at the No. 2 position as she defeated UT's Ya-Chi Hsu 6-0, 6-3.
- Melissa Cartis also shined for the Aggies as she picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win over Raquel Roshak at the No. 6 spot – tallying her second win of the year.
- Miranda Bishard continued the Aggies' winning ways as she secured a 6-0, 6-4 win over Adithi Venakatakrishnan at the No. 3 spot.
- Dora Kurdi then capped off the day with a 7-6 (3), 6-4 victory over Alysha Damron to finish off a 7-0 win for the Aggies.
UP NEXT
The Aggies will now hit the road for a pair of matches versus UT Arlington and UTRGV in Texas next weekend. NM State will face the Mavericks of UTA on Friday, March 24, before colliding with the Vaqueros on Sunday, March 26.
