Box Score TEMPE, Ariz. – NM State finished off a tough week in Arizona against another tough opponent in the Lobos. After falling to UNLV and Nevada on Friday and Saturday, respectively, the Aggies dropped a 4-0 decision to I-25 rival UNM on Sunday morning at Kiwanis Tennis Center on the final day of the 8-team ASU Tournament hosted by Arizona State.
Due to weather conditions, the two teams did not compete in doubles play and instead only played six singles matches.
SINGLES
- In the lone action of the day, NM State saw its best two showings come at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions as both matches reached a third set. On the No. 1 line, Corey Clarke dropped his first set by a score of 0-6 before turning the page to win the second set 6-0. Clarke did find himself behind 3-5 in the third and final set against UNM's Arda Azkara, however, his match would go unfinished as the Lobos clinched the match with wins at positions three through six.
- Meanwhile, Roko Stipetic also pushed New Mexico's No. 2 player Rafael Abdulsalam to a third set. Abdulsalam secured a 6-4 win over the Aggie in the first set before Stipetic drew even with a 6-2 win in the second set. The two individuals were tied 1-1 when the match concluded.
UP NEXT
After a weekend in Arizona, the Aggies will have 11 days with no action before heading to California to compete in the Golden State Invitational in Sacramento, Calif.
