THE FIRST SERVE
• After competing in Texas at the H-E-B Tournament of Champions last weekend, NM State will head west to take part in the 2023 ASU 8-Team Tournament among a deep field including host No. 32 Arizona State and rival No. 55 New Mexico.
• To start the tournament, NM State will face off with UNLV for the second time this season after colliding with the Rebels during the first weekend of the season. NM State will be looking to even the season series as they fell 4-0 in the first meeting.
• Last weekend, the Aggies earned their first win over a Division I opponent this season as they defeated DePaul 4-3 on Friday, Feb. 17.
• Entering Friday, the Aggies' leader in singles wins is
Jordy Visser with four victories to his name, including winning three of his last four matches that reached a result.
• The Aggies' hottest singles player is sophomore Luca Fé D'Ostiani who is currently on a two-match win streak at the No. 5 position. Fé D'Ostiani most recently picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win over Abilene Christian's Ethan Scribner.
• In doubles action, the Aggies are led by the duo of
Jordy Visser and
Yehor Opanasenko who have managed four wins through the early portion of the season, including a 3-0 record at the No. 2 position.
• In addition to a pair of top-75 teams among this weekend's field NM State will also be playing alongside two top-125 singles players in Arizona State's Murphy Cassone who is currently ranked 87
th and Utah State's David Cierny who is No. 111 in the ITA Division I Men's Collegiate Tennis Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point.
