Aggies Split Tournament Duels on Friday to Claim Spot in Fifth-Place Match

NM State will face either Abilene Christian or Oral Roberts at 8 a.m. MT on Saturday morning.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – After falling 5-0 to Louisiana early in the day, NM State bounced back to earn a 4-3 win over a tough DePaul team on Friday at the H-E-B Tournament of Champions.

MATCH ONE | Louisiana 5, NM State 0

Doubles
• The Aggies struggled to get going during the early-morning match as both doubles teams at the No. 1 and No. 3 position fell 6-1 – giving the Ragin' Cajuns the doubles point.

Singles
• In singles action, Jordy Visser showed toughness at the No. 1 spot to earn a 7-5 second-set win after dropping the first set 6-3. However, Visser's match with Al Sanchez Gonzalez would go unfinished as four other Aggies fell in straight sets to give Louisiana the match win.

MATCH TWO | NM State 4, DePaul 3

Doubles
• Despite hanging around for the majority of both doubles matches, NM State ultimately fell 6-4 at both the No. 1 and No. 3 spots to give the Blue Demons a one-point advantage entering singles action.

Singles
• The Aggies quickly found themselves even with DePaul after Itay Feigin earned a win by retirement at the No. 3 position.
• Following a Blue Demon win at No. 2, NM State closed the gap once again as Luca Fé D'Ostiani rallied to take a three-set victory over Jona Gitschel. Fé D'Ostiani dropped a tightly contested first set 7-5 before coming up with a 6-2 win in the second set and a 6-3 win in the final set. This would be one of four singles matches that reached a third and final set.
Jordy Visser fought his way to a three-set win at the No. 1 spot to claim his team-high fourth victory of the season and maintain a perfect 3-0 record at the No. 1 position. Visser defeated DePaul's Matteo Iaquinto by a score of 2-6, 6-3, 7-6.
• With the Aggies just one win away from earning a match win, DePaul tallied a win at No. 4.
• Then, the match would lie in the hands of freshman Patrick Lohmann who was in a duel with Elias Anwar. After edging out a 7-6 win in the opening set, Lohmann dropped the second set 4-6 to set up for a match-deciding third set. Lohmann pulled out a 7-5 win to hand the Aggies their first win over a Division I program this season.
