Aggies Secure Commanding Victory Over Western New Mexico

NM State puts together perfect day to defeat Mustangs 7-0.

Box Score LAS CRUCES, N.M. – After opening the season on the road at Arizona State on Friday, NM State turned right around to host Western New Mexico in its home opener on Saturday afternoon. The Aggies made use of the home court advantage as they picked up a 7-0 win over the Mustangs to earn their first win of the young season.
 
DOUBLES
  • The trio of Aggie doubles teams made quick work of their in-state foe as WNMU was only able to take two games from the Aggie pairs.
  • On the first line, Anna Pinaieva partnered up with Lisa Zhu to defeat Jenny Larsson and Livia Leite by a dominant score of 6-0.
  • Then, the duo of Miranda Bishard and Bella Nguyen secured the doubles point for the Aggies as they skated past Western New Mexico's Kasja Gedlitschka and Caini Wang – winning 6-0.
  • Valeriia Ivanovskaia and Natsuki Nishimura also earned their first win as a team this season when they topped Willemijn Van Mierlo and Massiel Paredes, 6-2.
 
SINGLES
  • NM State remained perfect during singles play as seven Aggies collected wins in seven matches.
  • Leading the way in the No. 5 spot was Miranda Bishard earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Kajsa Gedlitschka to claim the first singles win of the day.
  • Anna Pinaieva then earned her first singles win as an Aggie as she pieced together a 6-1, 6-0 win over Willemijn Van Mierlo.
  • Lisa Zhu was responsible for the Aggies' most one-sided match of the day as she took charge and collected a controlling 6-0, 6-0 match victory over Livia Leite at the No. 2 spot.
  • The fourth match to go final was freshman Valeriia Ivanovskaia's who managed a 6-0, 6-3 win over Caini Wang.
  • After a competitive first set, Natsuki Nishimura turned up the heat in the second frame to land a 6-3, 6-0 win over Jenny Larsson.
  • In her first official appearance as an Aggie, Dora Kurdi found success as she defeated Andreea Arnautu 6-0, 6-3.
  • Additionally, Bella Nguyen got her senior season going in the right direction with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Massiel Paredes.

  • The Aggies are back at home early next week as they welcome Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Tuesday, Jan. 24, with matches set to get underway at 11 a.m.
