U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – The Aggies kicked off their fall season at the ITA Bedford Cup in the Mountains as six of the Aggies competed in doubles play.
The duo of
Lisa Zhu and
Anna Pinaieva led the way for Head Coach
Emily Wang as they faced off against BYU's Smith and Linin a tight match that finished 7-6 (7) in favor of the Aggies. Zhu and Pinaieva will now draw Utah State's Annaliese County and Monique Burton.
Meanwhile, the team of
Dora Kurdi and
Natsuki Nishimura pushed their counterparts from Idaho to the brink before falling 8-7 in the opening round of the Bravo doubles draw. Kurdi and Nishimura now turn their attention to BYU's Jiao and Li who they will face tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
The final Aggie tandem that took to the courts on Thursday was
Miranda Bishard and
Bella Nguyen. They dropped their first match of the season, 8-5, to Boise State's Discenza and Kershner. Bishard and Bella will now prepare for a Friday meeting with Idaho's Horacek and Dowse.
Melissa Cartis and
Georgia Townsend had the day off thanks to a first-round bye in the Charlie draw but they will be in action tomorrow as they take on Air Force's Cotuna and Alda.
Friday's group of matches will get underway at 9 a.m. and will also feature the start of singles play for seven of the eight Aggies competing in singles action.
