LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State women's tennis team will bookend the Battle of I-10 this season with a 2 p.m. (MT) match against UTEP on Saturday, April 14, at the NM State Tennis Center. Fans in attendance at Saturday's match will also get pizza.
Â
The Aggies look to capture their second-consecutive win against the Miners when the two face off for the first time since the 2013-14 seasons. UTEP is also led by former Aggie head coach Ivan Fernandez, who took over the Miner program last summer.
Â
UTEP enters the weekend 6-13 overall and 0-5 in Conference USA. Freshman Erandi Martinez paces UTEP with a 20-10 overall singles record and 10-5 mark in dual play as well as being the only Miner with double-digit wins. Like her teammates, Martinez has seen action in all six positions this spring, but the bulk of her playing time has been at the No. 2 and No. 3 slots.
Â
NM State is 7-14 overall this season and 2-3 in Western Athletic Conference play as the spring season winds down. Transfer
Yadira Rubio leads the team with a 14-12 record in singles followed by Las Cruces native
Lindsay Harlas checking in with 11 wins.
