The NM State men’s tennis team returns home to host New Mexico Military Institute Thursday, March 8.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State men's tennis team looks to get back on track at home this week as it plays host to New Mexico Military Institute on Thursday, March 8, for a 1 p.m. (MT) first serve at the NM State Tennis Center.
 
The Aggies head home after dropping two of three matches at the H-E-B Tournament of Champions. However, NM State is 3-0 when playing at home in the friendly confines of the NM State Tennis Center.
 
NMMI enters the match-up on Thursday 3-2 on the season and is riding a three-match winning-streak. The Broncos are a young team compiled of two sophomores and four freshman.
 
Heading into the week, Mauri Benitez paces NM State with an 18-7 overall mark in singles action while Christofer Goncalves and Enrique Asmar are just one win behind him at 17-6 and 17-7, respectively, overall. Sergi Espias isn't far off with a 16-7 record while freshman Louis Menard checks in at 12-4 overall in singles action. Luis Flores rounds the list of double-digit winners out with a 10-13 mark.
 
Of the three Aggies that have six wins in dual play, the freshman Menard has the best winning-percentage (.857) at 6-1 followed by Asmar (.667) at 6-3 and Benitez (.545) at 6-5.
 
Meanwhile in doubles play, NM State's top doubles team of Goncalves and Flores and its No. 2 doubles team Stijn de Haan and Benitez are tied for the team-lead at 14-6. Goncalves are Flores are 5-4 in dual play while de Haan and Benitez own a team-best 7-1 mark at the No. 2 slot. Sitting at 5-1 at the No. 3 doubles position, Menard and Asmar have the second-best mark on the team in dual action.
 
New Mexico State remains at home the following week as it welcomes Battle of I-25 rival New Mexico into the NM State Tennis Center for a 1 p.m. (MT) battle on Thursday, March 15.
