Scouting the Roos
Kansas City was voted as the preseason WAC favorite and currently sits atop the conference with a 10-3 overall record and a 2-0 mark in conference play thanks to back-to-back shutouts of UTRGV and CSU Bakersfield. The Aggies are 1-6-1 all-time against the Roos, dropping a tight 1-0 contest in the City of Crosses last season.
Â
The Roos have a dynamic offense with four players recording five or more goals through thirteen games while leading the conference in goals (31) and points (92). The attack is spearheaded by Kelsey Mothershead with 23 points (9g, 5a), Rylan Childers with 19 (6g, 7a), 2017 WAC Offensive Player of the Year Lexie Howard with 18 (5g, 8a) and Reighan Childers with 17 (6g, 5a).
Â
Along with Howard, the Ross swept the 2017 WAC Player of the Year awards as junior defender Abby Small was named WAC Defensive Player of the Year while Reighan Childers and Mothershead joined them as First-Team All-WAC honorees.
Â
Freshman Afton Fennewald has thrived in goal for Kansas City in 2018. She has appeared in nine games for a 7-1-0 record to go along with a .791 save percentage, good for second in the WAC. Her nine goals against and 1.00 goals-against average also place her in second in the WAC.
