NM State Prepares for Upcoming Road Matches in Colorado

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State women's soccer heads back on the road in search of continued success in 2017. The team kicks off its first match of the weekend on Sept. 1, at 4 p.m. (MT), competing against Colorado State. The Aggies close out the weekend at Northern Colorado at noon on Sept. 3.
 
AGGIES GET BIG WIN OVER NEW MEXICO
  • For the first time in program history, NM State women's soccer defeated northern rival, New Mexico, with a 1-0 win.
  • Junior forward Audriana Chavez scored the game-winning goal with the assist from Devin Hart. This was Chavez's second game-winning goal of the season.
FONG NAMED WAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR SECOND WEEK IN A ROW
  • Redshirt goalkeeper Dmitri Fong remains Defensive Player of the Week for the Western Athletic Conference, having a total of 12 saves (7 – vs. New Mexico, 5 – at Grambling State) and facing 26 shots (18 – vs. New Mexico, 8 – at Grambling State) during week two of competition.
  • In the NCAA rankings, Fong is tied for first overall in shutouts (4) and sits ninth in total saves (30).
  • With a total of 485:13 minutes played, this puts Fong at the top spot in the goalie minutes played category.
  • Fong currently has a goals against average of 0.185 after five matches, which puts her in the 21st position in the national rankings.
AGGIES MAKE NCAA RANKINGS
  • Forward Audriana Chavez is currently tied for first in game-winning goals (3). Two of those game-winning goals came against both rivals, UTEP and New Mexico.
  • Chavez is also ranked fifth in total goals (4) and seventh in total points (10)
  • Forward Devin Hart is tied for 16th in total assists with three so far this season.
NM STATE AT COLORADO STATE: PREVIEW
  • The Aggies take on Colorado State Friday, Sept. 1 at 4 p.m. This will be the first time the two teams meet.
  • The Rams (0-2-1), are led by fourth-year head coach Bill Hempen. Hempen has a record of 276-188-44 in his 24 seasons as a head coach.
  • Colorado State is currently 0-2-1 so far this season.
NM STATE AT NORTHERN COLORADO: PREVIEW
  • NM State competes against Northern Colorado for the fourth time in program history. The team has a record of 1-1-1 against the Bears.
  • Northern Colorado currently stands with a 3-1-0 record thus far in 2017.
  • The Bears are led by head coach Tim Barrera, who has an overall record of 169-151-34 during his 19 seasons with the team.
LAST TIME OUT
  • NM State collected its first two road wins of the season, defeating Grambling State, 1-0, and Alcorn State, 8-0.
  • With the victory over Alcorn State, it was the highest goal scoring match for the team.
  • The Aggies are now 4-0-1, making this the best start in program history. In the process, it is the first time the Aggies swept both rivals (UTEP and New Mexico).
  • Goalkeeper Dmitri Fong has now held her opponents without a goal in 464:53 minutes of action, which has her in the top spot for shutouts in NCAA competition as well as Defensive Player of the Week for the WAC.
COMING UP….
  • The Aggies return to the Soccer Athletic Complex on Sept. 8 for a head-to-head match against Stephen F. Austin. Kickoff is at 3 p.m.
  • NM State hosts Incarnate Word, Sept. 10 at 1 p.m. The Aggies currently lead the Cardinals with an overall record of 1-0-0.
