LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State women's tennis team saw its season come to an end on Sunday at the NM State Center in the WAC Championship title match to UMKC, 4-1.

The Aggies (12-13) came out on fire, taking court No. 3 behind
Lindsay Harlas and
Gabrielle Joyce's 6-0 victory.
Vanessa Valdez and
Rebecca Keijzerwaard clinched the doubles point for New Mexico State shortly after when they ousted UMKC's No. 2 doubles team 6-3.

UMKC (13-9) came roaring back in singles action and took the first set in 5-of-6. NM State's lone win in the first set came on court No. 4 with senior
Marie-Pier Thiffault.

Katie Fries started the rally for the 'Roos when she defeated
Eli Arnaudova 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Aliona Ladutska gave UMKC its first lead of the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win at the top singles position against
Rimpledeep Kaur.

The 'Roos held a 3-1 lead over the host, NM State, after Harlas fell to Thanushree Vale 6-3, 6-1 on court No. 6. With match point on the line for UMKC,
Vanessa Valdez battled back at No. 2 singles and forced a third set 6-3, 4-6, 0-2. Thiffault also had match point at No. 4 singles 6-4, 6-6 and 6-4 in the tiebreak during the NM State rally.

However, Keijzerwaard wasn't able to hold off Mariam Kurasbediani on court No. 3 and dropped the match 6-3, 7-5 – which clinched the match for UMKC.

New Mexico State's season comes to an end 12-13 in 2016-17. The 12 wins for NM State in dual action is the most since 2011, when it went 13-8.
