LAS VEGAS – The New Mexico State men's tennis team split its first day in Las Vegas with a 4-0 victory over UC Riverside Friday afternoon at the Ferttita Tennis Complex after dropping its first match of the day to host UNLV 4-0.
The Aggies came out hot in doubles play as Christofer Goncalves and Luis Flores swept the Highlanders at No. 1 doubles 6-0. Sergi Espias and Enrique Asmar then defeated their opponents 6-1 to give NM State the doubles point and the early 1-0 lead.
New Mexico State kept its momentum going heading into the singles matches. Asmar won the first singles match of the day defeating his opponent 6-1, 6-1. Goncalves handled his opponent with a 6-2, 6-1 a victory on the No. 1 singles court. Espias sealed the victory for the Aggies with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Tadeas Lansky to secure the 4-0 sweep.
The Aggies are back in action on Saturday (Feb. 4) as they take on Weber State. Match time is set for 3 p.m. (MT).
