@NMStateWSOC Gets Back on the Road This Weekend

The NM State women’s soccer team hits the road once again this weekend to battle Weber State (Sept. 9) and Idaho State (Sept. 11).

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The NM State women's soccer team looks to build on its win last Friday when they hit the road this week. The Aggies will first take on the Wildcats of Weber State at 3:30 p.m. (MT) on Friday, Sept. 9, before continuing north to battle the Bengals of Idaho State at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11. Both matches will be live-streamed on Watch Big Sky.

QUICK HITS
  • NM State picked up its first win of the 2016 season last Friday on a golden goal from Aileen Galicia in the 101:01 mark against Texas State – the first game-winning goal of her career.
  • The win over Texas State was the Aggies' first against the Bobcats, NM State was 0-3 the previous match-ups.
  • NM State is now 3-4-1 all-time when playing in home-openers.
  • Galicia scored her second goal in as many games last Sunday against Wyoming.
  • Freshman Kyleigh Cox made her collegiate appearance in the Crimson & White against Wyoming at the 62:40 mark.
  • Sunday's loss to the Cowgirls was the first loss to Wyoming for the Aggies, they were 2-0 previously.

AGGIES AT A GLANCE
  • With her two goals last weekend, Galicia now leads the team with four points (2g) while Holly Abdelkader has two points (1g).
  • Galicia has the highest shots on goal percentage (min. 5 shots), checking in with a .500 clip while Audriana Chavez rocks a .438 shots on goal percentage. Chavez (16) and Galicia (12) are also the only two Aggies to tally double-digit shots on goal.
  • Ashley Martin picked up her first-career solo shutout last Friday against Texas State and became the first Aggie keeper since Taylor Rice did it in 2014 against CSU Bakersfield in a 3-0 win at the WAC Tournament quarterfinal.
  • Martin has started in every match since coming off the bench against UTEP in the season-opener back on Aug. 19.
  • The sophomore goalie owns a 2.27 goals against average to go with her 31 saves and .721 saves percentage.

OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN!
  • After a poll done by the team, senior Gabby Campbell and sophomore Dominique Rivera have been named the 2016 team captains.
  • Campbell is the entering her fourth season with the Aggies and currently No. 7 on the all-time assists list and is atop the leaderboard for games with multiple assists.
  • Rivera has been a staple on the Aggie backline since her return from Puerto Rico where she played on the Puerto Rican U20 Women's National team with current teammate and freshman Tuti Tirado.

BOBCATS ON THE HORIZON
  • The Aggies trail the all-time series 3-0 entering Friday's contest in Ogden, Utah.
  • NM State fell 3-0 at home against the Wildcats last season and 4-1 at home in 2012. The last match played at Weber State was back in 2011, a 3-0 decision in favor of the Wildcats.
  • The Wildcats return only 5-of-11 starters and lost 10-of-21 letterwinners.
  • The Wildcats are 1-1-1 to start the 2016 season and fell 4-0 to in-state rival Utah on the road before downing Grand Canyon 2-0 at home. Weber State recently took New Mexico to a draw last Friday at home as well.
  • Kelsi Tatton and Megan Price each have a goal to the lead the Wildcats while Morgan Quarnberg and Celeste Wheelwright each have an assist.
  • Sydnie Brough has started all three matches between the pipes for Weber State and owns a 1.24 goals against average with 16 saves. She's also tallied two shutouts on the year.
  • The Wildcats have given up 20 corner kicks and have only taken four on the year.
  • Opponents have taken 56 shots against Weber State and have a .357 shooting percentage.

CIRCLING THE BENGALS
  • NM State heads into Sunday's match-up 0-2-1 all-time when playing Idaho State. The Aggies lost the very first match-up against the Bengals 2-1 in the second extra-time period (2009) at home and tied ISU 1-1 after extra time in 2011 on the road. In 2012, the Aggies dropped a 2-0 decision to Idaho State in a neutral site match in Boise.
  • The Bengals are currently 2-4-0 and set to play Sam Houston State at 4 p.m. on Friday before hosting the Aggies.
  • ISU returns 14 letterwinners while losing eight and have added 11 newcomers to the mix. The Bengals also lost 6-of-11 starters, including 2015 First-Team All-Big Sky honoree Maria Sanchez.
  • Idaho State is riding a two-game losing streak, falling to Hawaii 1-0 on the road in extra time before falling to New Mexico 4-3 this past Sunday. The Bengals also lost to Wyoming (2-0) back on Aug. 23.
  • ISU's two wins on the year came against Houston Baptist (4-2) and BYU Hawaii (1-0) in extra time.
  • Freshman Michaela Didericksen leads all players with six points (3g) while Brooke Kortekaas, also a freshman, is second on the team with four points (2g).
  • Freshman Jazmin Lopez paces ISU in the assist category with three.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Aggies took a split in their opening weekend at home, picking up the season's first win against Texas State (1-0) in extra time before falling to Wyoming 4-1.
  • Despite taking just seven shots all match, including extra time, the Aggies were fairly accurate compared to the Bobcats; who only had 3-of-17 shots on target.
  • After giving up an early goal to Wyoming, Aileen Galicia tapped in the equalizer at the 24:55 mark off of Audriana Chavez's shot.

LOOKING AHEAD
  • The Aggies will first drive three hours north to face I-25 rival New Mexico at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, before returning home to host Nevada at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18.
  • NM State trails the all-time series against UNM 6-0 and is 1-3 all-time against Nevada. The lone win over the Wolfpack came on Oct. 9, 2011, when the Aggies hosted Nevada in its final year as a member of the Western Athletic Conference.
