Idaho NotesLAS CRUCES, N.M. – The NM State football team is ready to host Idaho on Saturday at 6 p.m. MT in Aggie Memorial Stadium. This Halloween game, sponsored by New Mexico's Agricultural Community, will be both a black out and the school's annual Ag Day. The game will air on AggieVision and ESPN3 and will be broadcast on AM 570.
Last Saturday, the Aggies dropped to 0-7 on the season and 0-3 in conference play as they fell 52-7 to Troy in the combination homecoming and Tough Enough to Wear Pink game. After falling behind by 35, the home team's bright spot of the evening,
Larry Rose III, received a 13-yard pass from
Andrew Allen to put NM State on the board.
Rose III rushed his way into the record books as he amassed 180 yards on the ground. With these 180 yards, the sophomore now has 1,973 career rushing yards, which ranks ninth all-time for the Aggies. Rose III currently has 871 rushing yards for the season as he is only 129 yards away from his second 1,000-yard rushing season.
Additionally, Rose III led the team in receiving with five catches for a career-high 67 yards and one touchdown. The receiving touchdown is the first he has had since his first game in an Aggie uniform, the 2014 season opener against Cal Poly. Rose III now has 180 receiving yards on 20 catches for 2015. Rose III also led the team in all-purpose yards with a game-high 247 yards.
Allen went 13-of-33 for 161 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. The sophomore quarterback is 43-of-84 for 469 yards and four touchdowns in his two games this season.
Derek Ibekwe and
Dalton Herrington both racked up eight tackles, and Herrington added 1.0 tackles for loss. Ibekwe leads the team with 65 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss through seven games. The sophomore also has a forced fumble on the season. Herrington has 34 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss and an interception.
This week's opponent, Idaho, is coming off its second-straight conference win after topping ULM 27-13 in the Kibbie Dome. Quarterback Matt Linehan led the team as he went 23-of-39 for 315 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. Elijhaa Penny led the Vandals' rushing efforts as he amassed 184 yards on 34 carries.
NM State and Idaho have met 21 times before, with the Vandals holding a 15-6 series advantage. The two teams last met on Oct. 18, 2014 in Moscow, Idaho as the home team captured a 29-17 victory.
